July 14, 2013 [Part 1/2]: Lunch Time with Papa Bear

My dad and I decided to go furniture shopping today to find a sofabed because our hizzle needs one. We didn’t find anything to our liking but we did pass by a Joey Tomatoes so we went there. Going clockwise, papa got French Dip and I got an Ahi Tuna Club sammich. The bottom left picture shows how beautifully pink the tuna is. Lightly grilled to perfection, it was like taking a bite into the ocean. The rest of my sandwich is only okay, I don’t really think together it tasted too good mainly because there was some salsa type thing on it and that totally threw me off.

July 5, 2012 [Part 2/2: Menchies]A couple of friends and I were going to watch Magic Mike but it was sold out so we went to Menchies in Airdie instead. It’s pretty cool - there was even a red velvet flavour which was neat. It’s better than Spoon Me in my opinion because Spoon Me’s frozen yogurt is waaay too sour. Also, Menchies has a better selection of toppings which included mango tapioca pearls, mochi, fresh fruits, etc.

July 5, 2012 [Part 1/2: Montana’s at the airport with @ninoangel]

We went to the airport because Nino had to get his ticket to go to Toronto~ And we just decided to go eat there hehehe. We got a seat beside the window and that was super cool. And they serve their water in jars =D

We had some yummy appetizer although I don’t remember what it was. It was cheesey and delicious and served with sour cream. Anything served with sour cream is delicious - pizza, perogies, french fries. The fattier the better, no?

I got their Goat Cheese Penne (broccoli, peppers, red onion and mushrooms tossed with penne in a goat cheese, tomato and roasted red pepper sauce). Nino had some maple salmon.. his was way better than mine although I do love me my goat cheese.

July 3, 2012

Every time I buy something I think looks so awesome, I’m really tempted to do an unboxing video but then I realize no surface in my house is clear enough. Le sigh.

Anywho, these are Calpico Assorted Sticks. They taste like ice cream.

July 1, 2012

Went to the farmers market and got a crepe for lunch and macaroons~
The crepe from Le Petit Mousse Crepes & Sandwiches was salty caramel and apple compote and it was super sweet! Almost a little too sweet but was still irresistible to me.

I got one of every kind of macaroon from Yum Bakery which were pistachio, vanilla espresso, mint chocolate chip, cherry, and one more I didn’t seem to have written down :S
I was told a few months ago that Yum was trying to open up a place on 17th ave so I checked their website and none of the links work LOL. Ahh I want to know so bad what’s happening with them!

I’m reading the stands they have in the Farmers’ Market now and I want to go so bad X(
I don’t know if it’s been there the entire time, but The Silk Road Spice Merchant is there and I wonder if they have vietnamese cinnamon.. I need that to make chocolate cake for Christmas!!

June 30, 2012 [Rose Garden Thai]

So Nino and I were doing our usual of just wandering around downtown. Then we got hungry and we spent about 30 minutes looking through Urban Spoon for a place to eat when we finally decided on Rose Garden Thai. It was kind of sketchy at first because all the restaurants on Stephen Ave. have patios outside and are pretty and look very fine dining but this place had a cheap looking light up sign and giant creepy stairs for the upper floor. It had a really good rating on Urban Spoon and we weren’t going to spend another 30 minutes deciding on a place to eat so we went right in.

ohh so pretty inside! And the servers were wearing traditional dresses too.

Yay Stephen Ave~ We were staring at that building behind the restaurants in front of us. I think it’s an office building with resident places on top. I have no idea. I want to live/work there though.

Blue Hawaii: pineapple juice and white rum (left) and Chi Chi: (explained to us by our waitress as) like pina colada but instead of white rum, they use vodka (right).

hnng coconut rice. At first we thought they only put the coconut milk at the top but we later found out that the rice and coconut milk is actually layered!

Vegetarian Yellow Curry (left) and Pad Thai (right)

Vegetarian Yellow Curry

Pad Thai
Oh my gosh was this ever delicious. The noodles were perfect and the sauce was amazing.

Everything here was absolutely delicious and not to mention filling. The prices are really good too because each dish is about $12-$15 by the end of the dinner, we were stuffed. It was sad because we were too full for dessert even though I really wanted some ):

I’d definitely come here again to try some more dishes!

Omg a channel dedicated to scientific advancements and research on food.
This is so interesting.
I don’t even know why I’ve been so obsessed with youtube lately. I’ve actually put off so much time I could have been studying or updating this blog just to fill my brain with things I don’t really need to know. At least it’s not mindless reality television. Does The Voice count as reality tv? Because I’ve been watching a whole lot of that lately.

Anyway.

Besides watching the previously mentioned fitness channels such as BlogilatesBlogilatesTV, Livestrong Woman, and Tone It Up, I’ve found myself fully immersed in the sciences and some math - which is how I came to find Foodskey, a channel dedicated to the science of food. I first expected it to explain raw food and break down what it has to offer for your body and whatnot, it actually ended up being about how modern technology impacts food. I’ve only watched a few so far and they’re all about how we can increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables and how to implement those technologies into factories of big companies. As with everything, watching these videos only arises more questions than you initially came in with such as, although the shelf life of the food increases, does the quality decrease in terms of nutritional value and most importantly taste? Questions like those keep me addicted to youtube.

For what got me into Foodskey, I’ve been watching:

  • CPG Grey - “complex things explained”. I found his channel a few months ago when he only had about 14 videos. I watched them all in one evening.
  • Minute Physics - physics-y things very briefly explained with stickmen and a voiceover.
  • Vlog Brothers - brothers with vlogs directed to each other (and the rest of the internet) about things that are important to them.
  • Vihart - mathy things explained via awesome doodles and a very hypnotic lady voice over. I’ve been subscribed to her for about a year now and I have no regrets with all the time I’ve spent watching and rewatching her videos. Especially her videos involving snails and spongebob with a snail. Snail snail snail.
  • Khan Academy - helping college (and perhaps high school) kids around the world and he recently employed Viheart!!
  • Nurd Rage - chemistry experiments explained briefly but (I’d like to think) thoroughly with a kind of creepy deep voice. They did this spinoff of “Will It Blend” a long while ago entitled “Will It Oxidize”. Their most memorable video is when they used Jacob from Twilight for a try..
  • VSauce - I don’t know if I’d put this into the sciency or mathy part of my youtube obsession but it’s pretty interesting. Just a bunch of random facts and sometimes explanations spewed by a man and his mouth.

As for channels I’ve just started watching this week besides Foodskey, there’s Veritasium who’s channel is just about science all around. This video is by far my favourite from the very few I’ve watched from him. It’s just got so much love and awe in it. And the host of the show is pretty darn good looking, smart, and not to mention, SPEAKING FRENCH. Hnng.
Then there’s Smarter Ever Day, which is just about educating the public. The sidebar on his channel reads:

I explore the world using science. That’s pretty much all there is to it. Watch 2 videos. If you learn something AWESOME, subscribe.

The goal is simple. Instead of just setting money aside for my 3 kids’ college fund, I spend it on making videos to educate the masses. Any donations I receive or revenue from the videos then becomes the college fund. This makes me more aggressive at saving for their college, and EVERYBODY GETS TO LEARN! If you’re interested in being awesome, it’s the third link below.

The link to donate to his kids’ college fund

And lastly, Sixty Symbols. “Cool videos about physics and astronomy”.

Looks like we’re all gonna fail this semester =)
